Why your side hustle does not generate income

In the time of internet, everyone is trying to make money. More and more articles arise, with titles in the range of “New side hustle that generates 5k/month” or “Make money while you sleep”.

You click on it and you read what it says. You think “Ok, this is not so bad, maybe I can give this a try” and then you spend the next weeks-months trying to follow the steps in the article/IG post/TikTok video and get that sweet cash flowing.

As time goes by, you notice that you have invested that time, but the balance on your bank account remains the same, if not less than it was (if time was not the only thing that was invested).

In this article I will give you the main reasons why your side hustle did not have the traction you thought it would have.

You are not focused

As stated above there are thousands of pieces of information flooding towards you that you do not have time to process them. You read about a side hustle and you give it a go. In the first 1–2 days you do not have any feedback and your account balance is stuck.

Then, your eye catches a new article that promises to generate the income the one you tried did not. You try this one as well but again, no income, you watch an IG reel with a new side hustle and so on… This is what we call in programming an “endless loop”.

You are not committed. You should focus just on one thing at a time. Give it your best shot (if you believe it is worth is of course) and time will reward you. You should persist and not give up at the first minor distraction you get.

Saturation

Say you give enough time to the side hustle you chose. Time goes by and there is little to none income generated. One possible reason could be saturation.

Imagine Elon Musk making an announcement that the first 1000 people who get in a specific Tesla dealership will get a brand new shiny Tesla for 1000$. How much time do you think would take for the 1000 cars to be sold at this price? An hour? Two? I believe it would be less than an hour.

This is the equivalent of what could have happened to your side hustle. Maybe lot’s of others like you are in the game and there is only this much income to be generated, hence to be shared between everyone involved.

Not the correct side hustle for you

Maybe your writing skills are rusty. Maybe your technical analysis on the candlestick chart of bitcoin is off. Maybe you are just not good enough at it.

Not everyone is good at everything. You need to find the side hustle you have talent at. For example, math wizards can try Forex trading. Computer wizards can do freelancing and if you are a artistic person, you could provide your services to the right audience.

Find what your talent is and make sure you make good use of it.

This concludes the main reasons why your side hustle is not as successful as you initially thought it would be. Reserve the time to carefully think about it and what steps one can take to make it work finally.
